How to get to Constance

Arrival by Public Transport

Constance is easily accessible by train from both Germany and Switzerland. Suitable connections can be found on the German and Swiss Railways websites.

Travel to Constance is also possible with the bus company FlixBus. Connections and tickets can be found here. There are two FlixBus stops in Constance, from which one can choose the closest to the respective hotel:

  • Fernbusbahnhof Konstanz
  • Konstanz Allmannsdorf (in the street "Reichenaustraße")

Arrival by Plane

The most convenient airport is Zurich Airport (ZRH). It is the closest international airport to Constance and offers direct train and FlixBus connections to the city without transfers. The journey between Zurich Airport and Constance takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. FlixBus is usually the more economical option; however, occasional delays may occur, whereas Swiss railway services are generally very punctual.

Another option is Stuttgart Airport (STR). Constance can be reached from Stuttgart by train in approximately 3.5 hours. Most intercontinental flights arrive at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), which is located about 4 to 5 hours from Constance by train. Further alternatives include EuroAirport Basel–Mulhouse–Freiburg (BSL), with a travel time of approximately 3 hours, and Munich Airport (MUC), from which the journey to Constance takes about 5 hours.

Arrival by Car

If no parking is available at the hotel, the following parking options in Constance may be considered:

  • Parkhaus Europabrücke
    • There are affordable day tickets and charging stations for electric cars here. Bus line 4/13 runs along this route. This is also the bus line that goes to the conference venue. There is also a city shuttle available.
  • Döbele Parkplatz
    • This car park is open 24 hours a day. Parking fees apply between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • P+R Seepark
  • However, other smaller options near the city centre may be considered as well.

Important Information

Accommodation in central Constance is recommended. Hotels located close to bus line 4/13 are particularly convenient, as this route provides direct access to Mainau Island. This also includes hotels near the industrial area, where several options are available, such as the ibis Hotel.

If accommodation in Constance is not available, the nearby towns Dettingen, Wallhausen, Dingelsdorf, and Litzelstetten are also located along the 4/13 bus line and provide convenient access to the island.

In addition, Meersburg is well connected to Constance and Mainau Island by ferry. Further accommodation options are available in towns with train connections, including Allensbach, Radolfzell, and Singen.
